Marble feature walls are a top Hong Kong upgrade, yet many 'pretty online, ruined on site' cases share the same faults: bookmatch, fixing method, lighting and edge detailing. This guide covers how to do it right.
The stunning effect is bookmatching — opening adjacent slabs like a book for a mirror image. Sequence and number slabs at selection; never fix on site. Prestige whites and marble TV walls rely on it.
Dry-hang: metal brackets fix marble to the wall structure with an air gap behind — damp-proof and safe, ideal for large or high areas. Preferred in humid Hong Kong towers.
Adhesive: stone glue directly on a perfectly flat, damp-proofed wall; cheaper and faster, but risky for large areas — small walls only.
Grazing light makes veining pop. Reserve a cove and heat relief so fixtures do not overheat the marble. ~3000K warm white looks most natural.
Finish joints with matching marble trim or metal; avoid bare caulk. Walls near windows or bathrooms need a damp-proof base and back-sealing to stop moisture discolouration.
Walls involve layout, joints and AV cabling — always measure and lay out on site first, with a layout drawing, before cutting.
Large or high walls should dry-hang for damp safety; small, flat walls may use adhesive to save. Humid Hong Kong towers usually call for dry-hang.
Bookmatch needs slab sequencing and more waste, but mid white marble bookmatched already looks great — not necessarily pricey.
Only if fixtures sit against the stone without a cove; reserve cooling and you are safe. Poor cooling risks local discolouration.
Damp-proof the base wall, back-seal the marble, and watch window/bathroom adjacency. Dry-hang air gap also helps.
