From late September to early October 2021, Marmomac returned offline for the first time since the pandemic. Although the fair ran at reduced scale with predominantly European visitors, Italy's flagship stone event sent two clear signals: sustainability has moved from concept to verifiable product, and ultra-thin composite slabs are opening new application frontiers for natural stone.
At this edition, quarry-rehabilitation programs, water-recycling systems and product EPDs became the 'standard trio' of leading exhibitors. Several Italian mining groups presented long-term monitoring data of bench mining and vegetation restoration on-site; 'verifiable green' has replaced the green story as the new language of procurement decisions.
In its series of supplier meetings, HENGSHENG MARBLE S&T CO. LIMITED formally included environmental-management capability in its annual vendor evaluation system and reached multiple cooperation intentions on green quarrying and water-recycling processing.
Ultra-thin slabs — 3-5mm natural stone veneer bonded to aluminium honeycomb, fibreglass or ceramic backings — show clear advantages in curtain-wall columns, furniture tops and retrofit projects: roughly one third the weight of traditional slabs, enabling larger formats, lower loads and faster installation. Vendor data indicate mature feasibility for high-rise façade applications.
HENGSHENG MARBLE S&T CO. LIMITED plans to introduce deep-processing and sealing technology for ultra-thin composites in 2022, offering a new material option for building renovation and lightweight façade projects.
